On August 20, 1878, Thomas Boyd was shot 15 times by a lynch mob that broke into his jail cell in Versailles, IN, where he was being held for raping the young daughter of one of the mob members in Moores Hill, IN.

Although the murder took place outside of the Indiana’s Gore region, it is included here because the crime for which the lynch mob sought vengeance occurred in Dearborn County.
