John Schwartz
Born: 24 OCT 1831 in Diedesfeld, Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
Died: 8 JUL 1881 in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana, USA

John Schwartz fled his homeland to avoid arrest based on his involvement in the Revolution of 1848. Five years later he settled in Lawrenceburg, where he studied law, spent four years in office as the city’s mayor, and later served four years as the city prosecutor. He also served as a defense attorney for part of his career, leading to his involvement in multiple cases, including:

Bradley/Bradley/Bradley | McDole: Served as prosecution for the State along with George R. Brumblay. On August 6, 1874, The Dearborn Independent published a letter to the editor which John Schwartz wrote regarding this case.
Harrison | Cheek/Bailey: Served as defense attorney for McDonald Cheek.
Rudolph | Cope/Johnson: Served as prosecution for the State along with George R. Brumblay and Omar F. Roberts.

John Schwartz is my 4th great-grandfather. His grandson’s generation dropped the “t” and began spelling their name “Schwarz”.
